We’re going to have to expand the bandwith of what we consider spiritual.
So quit discipling because we think discipling is shrinkwrapping people down to curriculum.
Information by itself does not change behavior. (people can read labels but they still eat poorly)
Become a lifecoach because Jesus said I have come to give you life.

Brad...was Reggie saying that Youth Ministry is an outsourcing of spiritual formation? And was he speaking highly of that?

he seemed to be saying a couple things here. past western american models of youth ministry seemed to 'outsource' the spiritual formation of youth. therefore, people needn't bother discipling their own children because youth ministry programs would 'do' that for them. the negative affects that we've come to see is that parents aren't discipling their children period. also, another negative affect is that there is a large generational disconnect because of separate worship and service locations.
he wasn't saying to do away with youth ministry, but to focus on cross-generational ministries. ie: family service projects, cross-generational mission experiences, tutoring programs, etc.(feel free to be as creative as you like here).
it was extremely thought provoking and there was a question and answer session with just youthworkers that i need to get the notes on (i wasn't taking notes because i was facilitating the session with reggie).
